The Adventures of Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), a leading video game designer and owner of the famous game company Encom, in the world that he created his own game continues. Setelah hilang hampir 20 tahun, Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund) yang merupakan anak Kevin akhirnya kembali menemukan sosok bapaknya setelah masuk ke dalam sebuah game Tron hasil ciptaan bapaknya.

Kisah diawali setelah Alan Bradley (Bruce Boxleitner) yang juga kawan Kevin memberikan sebuah kunci tempat permainan milik Kevin kepada Sam. Hal ini dilakukan Alan karena pager atau radio panggil miliknya mendapat sebuah pesan yang diketahui pengirimnya adalah Kevin. Sam yang awalnya tidak percaya, akhirnya mendatangi tempat kerja ayahnya tersebut.

Tanpa disadari Sam, ternyata dirinya mengaktifkan sebuah alat yang akhirnya membawa dirinya ke sebuah dunia ciptaan ayahnya, dunia yang tidak pernah ia bayangkan sebelumnya. Sam diwajibkan bertarung dengan program-program berbentuk manusia untuk saling mengalahkan.

Sam yang hadir dalam sebuah Grid atau dunia digital video game sebagai pengguna dan bukan sebagai program membuatnya menjadi musuh bersama di dunia ciptaan ayahnya tersebut. Sebuah penyelamatan yang dilakukan oleh Quorra (Olivia Wilde) akhirnya menuntun Sam bertemu sang ayah. akankah keduanya kembali ke dunia nyata?
