The film made by Fernando Meirelles is very strong in the delivery of messages, styles, and the contents of the film itself. Production of this 2002 film tells about the slums of Rio de Janiero, a beautiful city that always appear perfect on the postcards, but actually this area is controlled by various gangs that have their respective territories. 60s era gang culture that is inspired from real life story the central character, Rocket, played by Alexandre Rodrigues, as well as gang leader Li'l Dice, played by Leandro Firmino de Hora.
Perhaps there is nothing special about his acting. But what makes this movie different is the technique of editing and photography is perfect. The audience could feel the closeness with the film scenes through photography, as if the dust and dirt from the streets of Rio is really attached to our shoes. Tempo story this film is very fast due to quick-cut editing that is used in it. Techniques that fit with the street life of the main characters. Kita bisa saja membandingkan film ini dengan film-film garapan Quentin Tarantino, tapi film City of God tetap selalu berada dalam kelasnya sendiri. Film besutan Fernando Meirelles ini sangat kuat dalam penyampaian pesan, style, serta isi dari film ini sendiri. Film yang cukup kompleks dan hanya cocok untuk dinikmati kalangan mahasiswa ke atas.

Film produksi 2002 ini bercerita mengenai daerah kumuh di Rio de Janiero, sebuah kota yang selalu tampil indah sempurna di kartu-kartu pos, namun sebenarnya daerah ini dikuasai oleh berbagai geng yang memiliki wilayah kekuasaannya masing-masing. Kultur geng era 60an itu memang terinspirasi dari kisah hidup nyata sang tokoh sentral, Rocket yang diperankan oleh Alexandre Rodrigues, serta pemimpin geng Li’l Dice yang diperankan oleh Leandro Firmino de Hora.

Mungkin tidak ada yang spesial dari aktingnya. Namun yang membuat film ini berbeda adalah teknik editing dan fotografinya yang sempurna. Penonton bisa merasakan kedekatan dengan adegan-adegan film melalui fotografinya, seakan debu dan tanah dari jalan-jalan di Rio benar-benar menempel pada sepatu kita. Tempo cerita film ini sangat cepat karena quick cut editing yang digunakan di dalamnya. Tehnik yang cocok dengan jalan hidup sang karakter utama. Dengan peringkat ke 18 di jajaran Top 250 film terbaik sepanjang masa versi imdb, film yang sangat direkomendasikan untuk ditonton.
