The life that previously seemed so perfect all of a sudden get messy when John Brennan (Russell Crowe) must face the big shocks in the family. Laura (Elizabeth Banks), wife of John, was accused of a crime which he never did. John lives in an instant change and only love that could solve everything.

John did not want to give up even though he had to divide their time between being a lecturer, caring for their children while looking for ways to prove that she was innocent. While John was taking all the way but she still proved guilty and should serve their sentence. At this critical time, Laura would have a tendency to commit suicide and is increasingly made John nervous.

Now John is increasingly limited options. He can not let her in jail but he had traveled all the way and the results are still not there. The only way left is to design a scenario to run her out of jail. Succeed or fail, the plan still will destroy everything that had he had but at this point John seems to have no care anymore.

Review
On paper, THE NEXT THREE DAYS is indeed quite promising. The basic idea is strong enough to make a movie thriller. An ordinary man, because of his love, trying to free his wife who was languishing in prison because of charges of murder that he never did. Of course 'early victory' is not a guarantee that THE NEXT THREE DAYS would be a good film. There are several factors that still must be considered.

The first problem faced by this film is a translation of the basic idea was to be a good storyline without losing tensinya. One cause of the failure of the story plot of this movie is offered too many elements of chance. In certain cases the element of chance can still be tolerated as long as he has less effect on main routes. Unfortunately the film is precisely this element of chance inherent strength in the major groove.

The second problem is the casting error. We all obviously already know the quality of acting Russell Crowe and Elizabeth Banks. Elizabeth Banks did not really become a problem. He could portray her character well. That little wedge is probably the Russell Crowe. Although there's nothing wrong with Crowe's acting but she seems not quite fit the figure portray ordinary guy who tries hard to do everything to free his wife. I do not know why but it seems far more reasonable Crowe plays antagonist as in BODY OF LIE.

Kehidupan yang sebelumnya terasa begitu sempurna tiba-tiba saja jadi berantakan saat John Brennan (Russell Crowe) harus menghadapi guncangan besar dalam keluarganya. Laura (Elizabeth Banks), istri John, dituduh melakukan kejahatan yang tak pernah ia lakukan. Dalam sekejap mata hidup John berubah dan hanya cinta yang bisa menyelesaikan segalanya.

John tak mau menyerah meskipun ia harus membagi waktu antara menjadi dosen, merawat anak mereka sekaligus mencari cara untuk membuktikan bahwa Laura tak bersalah. Walaupun John sudah menempuh segala cara namun Laura tetap saja terbukti bersalah dan harus menjalani masa hukuman. Di saat kritis ini, Laura jadi punya tendensi untuk bunuh diri dan ini makin membuat John resah.

Kini pilihan John semakin terbatas. Ia tak mungkin membiarkan istrinya mendekam dalam penjara namun segala cara sudah ia tempuh dan hasilnya tetap tak ada. Satu-satunya cara yang tersisa adalah dengan merancang skenario untuk melarikan Laura dari penjara. Berhasil atau gagal, rencana ini tetap saja akan menghancurkan segala yang telah ia miliki namun di titik ini John sepertinya sudah tak peduli lagi.

Review
Di atas kertas, THE NEXT THREE DAYS ini memang cukup menjanjikan. Ide dasarnya cukup kuat untuk dibuat sebuah film thriller. Seorang pria biasa, karena cintanya, mencoba untuk membebaskan istrinya yang sedang mendekam di dalam penjara karena tuduhan pembunuhan yang tak pernah ia lakukan. Tentu saja 'kemenangan awal' ini bukan jaminan bahwa THE NEXT THREE DAYS bakal jadi film yang bagus. Ada beberapa faktor yang masih harus dipertimbangkan.

Masalah pertama yang dihadapi film ini adalah penjabaran dari ide dasar tadi menjadi sebuah alur cerita yang bagus tanpa kehilangan tensinya. Salah satu penyebab gagalnya alur kisah yang ditawarkan film ini adalah terlalu banyaknya unsur kebetulan. Dalam kasus tertentu unsur kebetulan ini masih bisa ditolerir selama ia tidak berpengaruh banyak pada alur utama. Celakanya dalam film ini justru unsur kebetulan ini yang melekat kuat di alur utama.

Masalah kedua adalah kesalahan casting. Kita semua jelas sudah tahu kualitas akting Russell Crowe dan Elizabeth Banks. Elizabeth Banks memang tak terlalu jadi masalah. Ia bisa memerankan karakter Laura dengan baik. Yang sedikit mengganjal mungkin adalah Russell Crowe. Walaupun tak ada yang salah dengan akting Crowe namun sepertinya ia kurang pas memerankan sosok pria biasa yang berusaha keras melakukan segalanya untuk membebaskan istrinya. Entah kenapa namun sepertinya Crowe jauh lebih pantas memerankan tokoh antagonis seperti dalam BODY OF LIE.
