Saya kagum dengan bagaimana sutradara Peter Docter mampu menggabungkan konsep dongeng kecil anak-anak dan memelintirnya menjadi sesuatu yang edukatif. Siapa yang sebagai anak-anak tidak takut dalam gelap karena adanya monster yang menanti mereka? Saya ingat ketika kecil saya selalu tidur dengan lampu terbuka karena takut ada monster Drakula! Pengalaman universal ini membuat konsep Monsters Inc gampang diterima siapapun. Kecerdikan Pixar tidak berhenti sampai di sana, konsep film yang sekaligus menjadi tagline Monsters Inc “We scare because we care” terdengar catchy, merupakan permainan kata yang pintar, sekaligus membuka peluang cerita yang besar.

Tentu saja konsep orisinil tidak ada gunanya tanpa eksekusi yang baik. Pixar meleburkan konsep yang orisinil tersebut dengan cerita yang klise tetapi tetap menggugah. Persahabatan antara Sulley dan Boo menjadi tema sentral cerita karena kedua karakter itu saling melengkapi. Karakter Sulley diubah oleh kepolosan Boo, sementara Boo belajar melawan ketakutannya dengan bantuan Sulley. Selain hubungan keduanya, ada juga persahabatan antara Sulley dan rekan kerjanya Mike. Saya pribadi kurang suka Mike karena karakternya terasa terlalu dangkal (dan terlalu banyak melakukan komedi one-liner yang sialnya sering kurang lucu). Sayangnya menjelang pengakhiran film, Peter Docter kelihatannya terlalu tergesa-gesa sehingga momen yang sudah dibangun dari awal hingga perempat terakhir jadi kurang greget dan terlalu memusingkan karena melulu berganti adegan (tonton sendiri untuk mengerti maksud saya). Hilang sudah kebrilianan Monsters Inc yang pada awal filmnya bahkan sempat menyelipkan pesan ‘hemat energi’ secara cerdas.

Dari segi animasinya, Pixar juga mengambil gambling (yang untungnya) mereka menangkan. Perhatikan bulu-bulu pada karakter Sulley yang jelas memiliki tingkat animasi lebih sulit daripada karakter-karakter Pixar sebelumnya. Musiknya ditangani Randy Newman yang dinilai Pixar berhasil membuat musik dalam Toy Story. Bila dalam dua film mainan itu Randy Newman banyak memasukkan musik country, Monsters Inc lebih banyak diwarnai musik jazz.

Saya rasa karena keberhasilan Monsters Inc inilah Studio Pixar kian pe-de dan tidak pernah lagi menengok ke belakang. Buktinya enam film yang mereka buat setelahnya selalu merupakan ide orisinil yang tidak pernah mengulang-ulang ide film mereka sebelumnya, sebuah trend yang baru akan dipatahkan dengan rilisnya film ketiga Toy Story tahun 2010 nanti.

Terakhir penonton melihat Jason beraksi ketika ia duel melawan Freddy dalam crossover Freddy VS Jason (omong-omong, A Nightmare on Elm Street tahun depan juga bakalan mendapat reboot). Kali ini Jason tak mau lagi berbagi korban. Setelah berkelana sampai ke luar angkasa, Jason kini kembali lagi dalam habitat aslinya di Camp Crystal Lake. Berapa banyak lagi darah yang akan tumpah dalam film ini?

Film diawali pada tahun 1980. Seorang gadis tengah diserang oleh seorang wanita paruh baya. Tak berapa lama kemudian gadis itu sukses memenggal kepala sang wanita paruh baya. Ketika gadis itu kemudian melarikan diri, mayat sang wanita paruh baya ditemukan oleh anaknya. Setting kemudian beralih ke jaman sekarang ketika lima orang berkemah di tempat yang disebut Camp Crystal Lake itu. Kelimanya kemudian diserang oleh Jason. Tak ketahuan bagaimana nasibnya, enam minggu kemudian lagi-lagi ada rombongan lain yang hendak berkemah di Camp Crystal Lake. Secara bersamaan, Clay Miller datang ke kota tersebut untuk mencari saudarinya Whitney Miller, termasuk dalam rombongan lima orang yang sebelumnya diserang oleh Jason. Kepolisian setempat sudah menyerah dalam mencari Whitney dan kawan-kawannya dan memasukkan mereka dalam daftar orang hilang. Clay toh tidak sepenuhnya percaya dan memutuskan untuk mencari saudarinya itu sendiri. Seperti yang bisa ditebak, rombongan baru yang hendak berkemah dekat Camp Crystal Lake lagi-lagi diburu oleh Jason.

Saya kecewa dengan film ini. Tadinya dengan kesuksesan film ini di box office Amerika (ketika dirilis pada Jumat tanggal 13 Februari, film ini menembus angka 40 Juta USD pada opening weekendnya), saya menyangka bahwa film ini bisa memberi awal baru yang mengesankan bagi franchise ini. Ekspektasi saya hilang berganti rasa kecewa melihat ternyata reboot ini hanya mengikuti pakem film serupa: membunuh orang-orang idiot dalam layar. Jujur saya katakan kalau saya merasa simpatik dengan apa yang dilakukan Jason dalam film ini karena hampir semua karakter yang ada dalam film ini menyebalkan dan layak dibunuh. Dengan perkecualian duet bersaudara Clay dan Whitney Miller serta Jenna, semua karakter di dalam film ini dibantai dengan mengikuti pakem. Tidak percaya? Ada yang tewas ketika tengah berhubungan seks. Ada juga yang tewas karena menjauh pergi dari rombongannya. Ada yang tewas karena nekat mendatangi wilayah yang tak harusnya mereka datangi. Setiap kali saya menonton dan melihat mereka dihabisi Jason bukannya saya kasihan, saya malah memutar bola mata saya sembari berkomentar “Rasain… Bego sih…”. Yang malahan sedikit di luar perkiraan saya adalah film ini tidak terlalu banyak mengumbar darah. Sadis sih sadis, tetapi masih di bawah tingkat gore dari remake Halloween ataupun franchise Saw.

Dari deretan pemainnya sendiri, yang langsung menarik perhatianku adalah Jared Padalecki, Danielle Panabaker, Aaron Yoo, dan Amanda Righetti. Jared Padalecki mungkin yang paling populer karena bermain dalam serial Supernatural yang cukup ngetop di sini. Danielle Panabaker menurut saya tetap imut dan kehadirannya di sini memasukan rasa kangen saya setelah empat tahun tak melihat dia usai Sky High, bila ia mendapat peran seperti good girl begini terus, saya percaya ia memiliki kapasitas menjadi The Next American Sweetheart. Amanda Righetti entah kenapa tampak kusam dan jelek di film ini (dan perannya diturunkan menjadi damsel in distress), berbeda dengan dirinya sebagai Grace Van Pelt di The Mentalist yang selain cantik juga tangguh. Yang paling mencuri perhatian adalah Aaron Yoo yang tampil lepas dan sering menjadi pemancing tawa. Sisanya? Anggap saja semuanya karakter-karakter cowo yang menyebalkan dan haus seks serta karakter-karakter cewe yang kerjaannya hanya mengumbar (maaf) buah dada mereka.

Pada akhirnya, Friday the 13th tidak menawarkan apa-apa yang baru. Ini hanya sebuah reboot yang berusaha menyempilkan banyak hal yang membuat franchise ini dulu ngetop tapi malahan jadi datar dan klise gara-gara dipaksakan masuk dalam satu film. Tonton saja film orisinilnya, setidaknya yang itu masih punya plot twist yang cukup mengejutkan pada penghujung film.

Eagle Eye (2008)

What happens when the technology became more and more evolved? Will they eventually become too smart so the control of human life? Some probably going to master the technology humans have ever filmed through the Terminator franchise, The Matrix, and I Robot. This time, the film Eagle Eye is said the idea was born from the mind of the producer, Steven Spielberg, took the same theme.

Jerry Shaw never imagined that her life was suddenly going to mess going after his twin brother - Ethan Shaw - died. Understandably, Jerry is very different from his brother. When Ethan dedicated and became the state warriors, Jerry was just a lowly handyman photocopy. How he was not surprised that one day there are hundreds of thousands of dollars suddenly transferred in his account? How he was not surprised so suddenly just when his rented a shabby room suddenly got so many weapons shipment?

Jerry is accused by the FBI and all American law enforcement agencies as a terrorist was forced to accept help from a mysterious woman's voice called him and became an angel helpers. Following orders was the same woman who brought Jerry met a girl named Rachel Holloman. Together, they struggled to escape from the pursuit of law enforcement, clean up their name, and find out who the mysterious woman who give orders to them.

After watching this movie, that it occurred to me was: "Wow, this is like 2001: A Space Odyssey who worked with a modern setting." This idea when applied in the film turned out to be more relevant because of recent technological advances. Unfortunately, this interesting concept of why his execution is less biting. Potential can be maximized because there is less constrained by the scenario that puts more action movie Eagle Eye as usual. As a result, Eagle Eye's so versatile responsibility. Want to say a movie about the kinds of intelligence and intelligent technology Enemy of the State felt raw, full of action while would say not.

This situation is exacerbated acting of the players. Shia LaBeouf and Michelle Monaghan spent nearly 70% of their screen time together but they lack chemistry to not feel at all. Trying to incorporate elements of romance between them even felt weird and forced. Michael Chicklis those present here, too, his role was minimal and very, very shallow. You could say only Billy Bob Thornton who can steal the audience's attention every time he appears on screen. Julianne Moore also I managed to grab the attention of more value to the audience even though she only appears in the form of sound alone.

Eagle Eye is not a bad movie. For those who want an action film that only requires a little thought will surely enjoy Eagle Eye. Even so, do not be paranoid after watching this movie, the technology until the next few years could not even do what was done in Eagle Eye system.

Kali ini, film Eagle Eye yang konon idenya lahir dari benak sang produser, Steven Spielberg, mengambil tema yang sama.

Jerry Shaw tidak pernah menyangka kalau hidupnya bakalan mendadak bakalan kacau balau sesudah saudara kembarnya - Ethan Shaw - meninggal dunia. Maklum, Jerry sangat berbeda dengan saudaranya itu. Apabila Ethan berdedikasi dan menjadi prajurit negara, Jerry hanya seorang tukang fotokopi rendahan. Bagaimana ia tidak kaget begitu suatu hari ada uang ratusan ribu dollar mendadak saja ditransfer di rekeningnya? Bagaimana ia tidak kaget begitu mendadak saja ketika ruang kosnya yang kumuh mendadak mendapat kiriman begitu banyak senjata?

Jerry yang dituduh oleh FBI dan semua aparat hukum Amerika sebagai teroris terpaksa menerima bantuan dari suara wanita misterius yang meneleponnya dan menjadi malaikat pembantunya. Mengikuti perintah wanita ini jugalah yang membawa Jerry bertemu dengan seorang gadis bernama Rachel Holloman. Bersama-sama, keduanya berjuang meloloskan diri dari kejaran para penegak hukum, membersihkan nama mereka, dan mencari tahu siapa sebenarnya wanita misterius yang memberi perintah pada mereka.

Usai menonton film ini, yang terlintas di benak saya adalah: “Wah, ini seperti 2001: A Space Odyssey yang digarap dengan setting modern“. Ide ini ketika diaplikasikan dalam film ternyata lebih relevan oleh karena kemajuan teknologi belakangan ini. Sayangnya konsep menarik begini kok eksekusinya kurang menggigit. Potensi yang ada kurang bisa dimaksimalkan karena dibatasi oleh skenarionya yang lebih menempatkan Eagle Eye sebagai film aksi biasa. Hasilnya, Eagle Eye jadi serba tanggung. Mau dibilang film soal intel dan teknologi cerdas macam Enemy of the State terasa mentah, sementara mau dibilang penuh aksi juga tidak.

Keadaan ini makin diperparah akting para pemainnya. Shia LaBeouf dan Michelle Monaghan menghabiskan hampir 70% waktu layar mereka bersama-sama tapi chemistry mereka minim sampai tidak terasa sama sekali. Berusaha memasukkan unsur romantis antara keduanya malahan terasa aneh dan dipaksakan. Michael Chicklis yang hadir di sini pun perannya terasa minim dan sangat-sangat dangkal. Bisa dibilang hanya Billy Bob Thornton yang bisa mencuri perhatian penonton setiap kali ia muncul di layar. Julianne Moore juga saya nilai lebih berhasil merebut perhatian penonton walau ia hanya muncul dalam bentuk suara semata.

Eagle Eye bukan film yang jelek. Bagi mereka yang menginginkan sebuah film aksi yang hanya memerlukan sedikit berpikir pasti akan menikmati Eagle Eye. Kendati begitu, jangan paranoid usai menonton film ini, teknologi sampai beberapa tahun mendatang pun belum bisa melakukan apa yang dilakukan dalam sistem Eagle Eye.

Aq like setting his kingdom in the clouds. Cool banged! Rich 'world without gravity so, the lands could ambrol n ancur scattered in the air. Very rekomend for filling the weekend with family.

Unfortunately the film is really rich too booming ga ya? maybe because his voice is less well-known filler time yes?
In fact I think pretty graphics tablets. May get 8 / 10 ...

Aq suka setting kerajaannya yang ada di atas awan. Keren banged! Kaya' dunia tanpa gravitasi gitu, tanah-tanah bisa ambrol n ancur berserakan di udara. Sangat rekomend buat mengisi akhir pekan dengan keluarga.

Sayang film ini kok kayanya ga terlalu booming ya? mungkin karena pengisi suaranya kurang terkenal kali ya?
Padahal menurutku lumayan loh grafisnya. Boleh dapet 8/10...
